当代与传统的相融
今年3月至5月我们两次前往清迈协助高翔老师举办画展以及进行学术交流期间,结识了清迈大学美术学院副院长卡塔普•皮帕特(Kanta Poonpipat)先生。其从事艺术摄影已有40年,与国内所“擅长”某一种拍摄类型有所区别的是他所拍摄的作品题材轻松的游走于传统与先锋之间。

清迈肖像系列之一
学生时期他曾在美国接受过良好的美式教育,身上透露着绅士而不失优雅风趣的贵族气质。我想正是由于其家族氛围以及教育经历促成了作品能够在传统与先锋之间的自由游走的原因。其作品风格也好似清迈这座城的缩写,清迈是一座原始农耕文明与现代文明结合的城市,古城区与新城区合理的分开。全城不仅保持着护城墙、庙宇等古老文明,至今人们在重要场合还是会穿着泰国传统服饰,同时兼容着来自世界各地的外来新兴事物。

清迈肖像系列之二
此次展览呈现的是从古兰娜王朝就栖息于清迈的泰元人的生活状态。Kanta先生使用摄影这一现代工具与泰元人于1983年以来“长谈”至今。作品以黑白为主,但画面中保留着蓝色、红色、以及橘黄色,这三种颜色都为泰国传统幸运色,Kanta 先生对颜色的保留也可以看出他对当地传统文化的尊重与保护。他用自己的视角去关注接触传统文化,但不以自己思想去驾驭泰元人的生活习俗,巧妙将当代与传统相融。

The Fusion of Contemporary and Tradition

This year from March to May we visitedChiang Mai two times to assist Mr. Gao Xiang in his solo exhibition and attendthe academic exchange. We met Katap PoonPipat the assistant dean of College ofFine Arts of Chiang Mai University. He has been engaged in art photography for40 years. There is difference between him and domestic photographers that thethemes of his photography works wander between tradition and pioneer, but thedomestic photographers are “good at” the certain type of shooting.

During his student period he had received agood American education in the United States, revealing the gentleman, elegantand witty aristocratic temperament. I think it is precisely because of hisfamily atmosphere and education experience that contributed to his works canwander freely between tradition and pioneer. The style of his works is alsolike the abbreviation of Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is a city that combined aprimitive farming civilization with modern civilization; the old town and thenew urban district are reasonable separated. The whole city not only maintainsthe wall, the temple and other ancient civilizations, so far people will wearThai traditional costumes in the important occasions. At the same time, theykeep compatible with emerging things from all over the world.

The exhibition presents the livingconditions of the Thai Yuan people who live in Chiang Mai from the age ofancient kingdom of Lanna. Mr. Kanta uses photography this modern tool to have“a long talk” with Thai Yuan people since 1983. His works are dominated byblack and white, but the picture retains blue, red, and orange. These threecolors are the Thai traditional lucky color. Mr. Kanta’s respect and protectionto the local traditional culture can be seen from his reservations of thecolor. He uses his own perspective to focus on and contact the traditionalculture, but not uses his own ideas to harness the life of the Thai Yuanpeople, fusing the contemporary and traditional integration masterly.

文脉相承的平实之美
21世纪的清迈已是泰北地区一个国际化的文艺之城,距今700多年以前,古兰娜王朝曾在这里开疆拓土,与民生息。如今,清迈民间对于佛教的礼拜、东方礼节的注重、以及平和安然的生活态度选择,依旧可以映衬出古兰娜文明在当下的传承。

但是这种历久弥新的传承通过镜头语言来表达却是不易的,在摄影技术变得极为便捷的时代,图像大部分时候成为人们获取信息的首要选择。同样为了简便的吸引观看,花哨、惊艳的视觉语言俯拾皆是,这种视觉刺激很多时候变成了一种商业消费和生理反射,而真正静心平实纪录的视觉语言变得稀少。

清迈肖像系列之四
清迈摄影家卡塔普•皮帕特(Kanta Poonpipat)却选择了这种平实纪录的视觉语言。从1983年开始,他走进清迈古老的文明遗迹之间,僧侣虔诚礼佛之时,民众真实自然的生活之中,用自己稳固又充满灵气的镜头捕捉清迈泰元人平凡生活的瞬间和感动,以及这种平实背后所渗透的宗教神性,可谓叶底藏花见天地。在卡塔普•皮帕特的镜头里,清迈人的平和与友善真实的展现在观众面前。他的摄影作品,在很大程度上消除了文化差异上的距离感与陌生感,让观众如临现场,在视觉心理上专注于人性本身的感受与触碰。他的清迈肖像,虽选取不同的众生之像,但是却有着相同的亲切之感,这也是当下视觉艺术里最为缺少的情感体验。

The Ture Beauty Of Civilization Heritage

From the beginning of the 21st century, Chiang Mai has been an international cultural and art city in Northern Thailand. More than 700 years ago, the ancient Lanna Kingdom was already here,exploiting the territory and raising the people. At present , we can still discover the inheritance of the ancient Lanna Kingdom by their worship of Buddhism, notice of oriental etiquette and peaceful lifestyle .

But , it is difficult to express this kind of fantastic heritage through the lens language. Along with the photography technology has been extremely convenient, more and more people take pictures to get the information as their first choice. Meanwhile, florid and garish images can be found everywhere just in order to catch our attention, this visual stimulation not only has become a commercial spending but also physiological reflection, the ture and meditative records has been scarce.

Kanta Poonpipat, a Chiang Mai photographer, chooses the ture and meditative way to record about Chiang Mai ancient civilization ruins, the monks’ piety and real nature daily life since1983. The flowers of the leaves are seen in world. He uses his strong and inspirational lens to contact with Tai Yuan people’s ordinary life, and the infiltration of religious divinity behind. Through the lens of Kanta Poonpipat, the peace and

kindness of the Chiang Mai has been shown in front of the audiences. His photographs which eliminated cultural differences largely in the sense of distance and strangeness, let the audiences in the scene focus on feeling and touching of human nature through the visual psychology. Although his Chiang Mai portrait chooses different human beings , has the same kind of feeling, it is also a lack of emotional experience in the modern visual art.
